Chris Callihan
2007 Body-for-LIFE Grand Champion, Family Group

Q: Describe your life before the Body-for-LIFE Challenge?

My life wasn’t bad, I have a good job great family, just nothing exciting going on. Go to work at 6am, get home at 7pm watch some T.V, go to bed, and do it all over again the next day. Something was missing, kind of empty feeling. My life is more than half over and I have never accomplished anything out of this world great…. Until now, and with my son to boot, I dare anyone to take that challenge!

Q: What made you finally decide to take that first step and enter the Challenge?

My son was involved in a quad riding accident and hurt pretty bad (torn AC in his right shoulder)  The doctor told him it would take months to heal. He had a national racquetball tournament and baseball tryouts coming up. We heard that the best thing is to build muscle around it to make it stronger, so entering the challenge served two purposes: Help keep us on track with a plan and build the muscle. Doing it as father and son was a way to drive each other. I couldn’t let him down and he couldn’t let me out do him. It’s perfect.

Q: What were your very first impressions of the program? Did you struggle or was it liberating?

Everything is a struggle when you first start, that also depends on motivation. It doesn’t take long to get into the swing of things. We were off and running fast with hardly any struggle. It soon became an obsession and something we looked forward to, we couldn’t wait to get back to the next day.

Q: Talk about the moment you first began to see changes in your body and/or outlook?

About two weeks into it I noticed two big changes. #1 I stopped doing cardio when it was time and not because I was totally worn out. #2 my son and I had to go shopping for heavier weights and then more weights(I like that kind of shopping) The best for last: I got to spend more time with my son and still do. He is getting older and will move out on his own soon, so I want to make the best of all the time available and what better way than this.

Q: How did you feel on the very last day of your Challenge?

I’m almost 47 years old and have seen and done a lot of different things. I have in no way ever felt a more sense of accomplishment than when my son and I finished the 12 week challenge and to finish with him was the master of all accomplishments.

Q: What was the reaction of your friends and family to the amazing changes you made?

If they hadn’t seen us before and watched us during the program, they would have never believed it. I can’t tell you how many times we heard” OH MY GOD YOU GUYS LOOK GREAT”.

Q: Do you still follow the Body-for-LIFE program?

For the most part yes, some times we venture off and try new things but always go back to what has proven to work “EAS and Body-for-LIFE”

Q: If someone were to ask your advice about starting—and finishing—the Challenge, what would you tell them?

It would be more like a question/statement. #1 why not start? You have absolutely nothing to loose and the whole world to gain. Once you commit to start you will be bound by your own self-preservation to finish. You’ll feel it, see it and so will everyone else.

Q: How has your life changed since doing the Challenge?

We have more quality family time. I have more confidence, energy and stamina. I don’t feel like a slug anymore.

Q: Where do you think you’d be if you had never done the Challenge?

Caught up on all the latest nightly sitcoms. We love Smallville, missed the last few episodes though. We also would not have the opportunity to answer these questions and be part of the BFL family.

Q: What have you been up to since first joining BFL?

We volunteered ourselves and 23 other co-workers to participate in an all night walkathon to raise money for cancer. I also did a short 3 hour leukemia walk.  Other than that, working out, eating right, and enjoying life.

Q: After going through the 12 weeks, how was your mindset different than it was before? Were you able to face challenges in your life with more confidence?

I the beginning I just knew the 12 week challenge was going to be extremely hard and I had that embedded in my mind. It was after I started the program and finished when I realized that it was just a mind set. I now face daily challenges knowing that, easy or hard is just a state of mind.

Q: What is your favorite free day meal?

Brandon never used a free day, for me it was everything in sight! That was so cool to eat what ever I wanted for one day and it would have no effect on me. It was one heck of boost to my metabolism though.

Q: How have you spread the word of Body-for-LIFE to other folks?

I found out about the BFL Corporate Challenge, and talked the owner of our company into putting up $1500 in prize money so we can have our own company challenge. We now have 29 people signed up (including the owner and his son)

Q: Being that you won the challenge in 2007. How have you continued to live this Lifestyle? And what has been the most difficult part? If anything.

I live every day as if I were still doing the BFL Challenge. The only hard part are those days I don’t follow the program.

Q: Current goals:

The biggest goal I have right now is to help 29 of my co-workers start and finish their own 12 week Body-for-LIFE Challenge.

Q: Quotes that Inspire:

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.    Theodore Roosevelt

Begin with the end in mind.   Peter Drucker

Failing is never trying.  Chris Callihan

Q: Define Success:

The ability to vision goals and achieve them.
